But Celotex was also a leader in the asbestos industry, and eventually that association came to lead to their demise. As a result of numerous asbestos related lawsuits, and labor safety actions by the federal government, the Celotex Corporation was sold off division by division, beginning early in 2000.
The ceiling division was sold to CertainTeed, and the remains of the product lines are now sold and distributed through them.
If you would like to learn a little more about division aquisitions by various companies, you can read about it here.
Cetainteed had already been actively working to expand their own ceiling division, and since some of the the Celotex products would be competing against their own, they were eliminated/discontinued shortly after the new owners took over.
The remaining product lines still carry the "Celotex" label, but the products and options are severely limited, when compared to the product line they had before they were sold off.
